Ready for a relaxing weekend getaway? While some of our guests love nothing more than unwinding in the peaceful grounds of Low Costa Mill, others are eager to explore the local area but aren’t sure where to start. What will the kids enjoy? What’s worth your valuable time? We understand!
Recently, a family with two young children stayed with us for a long weekend, keen to explore but unsure of the best options. After chatting with them and sharing our extensive collection of local leaflets, we helped them craft an itinerary that kept everyone happy.
Now, we’re sharing that inspiration with you! Get ready to discover a delightful mix of activities for both children and adults, ensuring your weekend getaway at Low Costa Mill is packed with fun and unforgettable memories.
Friday Afternoon: Sweet Beginnings and Cottage Comforts
After checking in at Low Costa Mill, a delicious treat was definitely in order! We suggested a visit to Cedarbarn Café, just a short drive away. It’s the perfect spot for everyone: the kids can burn off some energy in the outdoor play area while the adults enjoy a well-deserved tea and cake.
Returning to your cottage, there’s still plenty of time to explore our beautiful grounds. You can stroll through the gardens, say hello to our friendly animals, or simply relax by the mill stream. Of course, no Low Costa Mill arrival is complete without a refreshing dip in our heated indoor pool – perfect for unwinding after your journey!

Saturday: Forest Adventures and Farmyard Fun
Saturday was all about embracing the great outdoors! Knowing the family loves spending time outside, we suggested a trip to Dalby Forest, the Great Yorkshire Forest. It’s a fantastic choice, especially for families, as almost every child we meet is a Julia Donaldson fan!
Here, they could embark on the delightful Stick Man trail, meet the iconic Gruffalo, and let loose in the excellent adventure play parks. The forest truly ticks all the boxes for active kids and appreciative adults. Plus, Dalby Forest offers plenty of picnic benches for those who prefer to bring their own food, alongside a lovely café for snacks and refreshments. Returning to Low Costa Mill, the fun continued! There was more time to explore our expansive grounds, enjoy another refreshing swim in the heated indoor pool, and even join in on our special meet-and-greet and feeding session with our friendly farm animals. A perfect blend of adventure and relaxation!

Sunday: Lavender Fields and Playful Discoveries
For Sunday, we planned a delightful visit to Woldies, a local lavender farm. Don’t let the name fool you – this charming attraction offers so much more than just beautiful lavender fields!
It’s a fantastic spot for families, with plenty of activities designed to keep little ones entertained. From the whimsical willow labyrinth and giant games to nature trails and play areas, there’s a whole world of discovery beyond the fragrant blooms.
After a day of playful exploration and soaking in the tranquil beauty of the farm, the family returned to Low Costa Mill. What better way to round off an active weekend than with another relaxing swim in our heated indoor pool, creating more cherished memories together!

Time to Head Home (Until Next Time)
As they departed on Monday morning, the family shared how much they’d loved their stay. And, as usual, the children were already asking when they could come back!
