Our project for Winter 2019 was the addition of our new cycle-friendly facilities for our guests to make Low Costa Mill cycle friendly accommodation for North York Moors visitors. Low Costa Mill is perfectly placed for a wide range of cycling adventures, whatever your level of fitness and skill. Pickering is ideal to explore the North York Moors with some great cycle routes close by, including the infamous Dalby Forest along with the local facility of Newbridge Park. It is also the start point for a couple of the Moor to Sea Cycle network routes. Cycling is a great way to explore the miles of North York Moors countryside, and explore many of the hidden gems, forest tracks, country roads, disused railway lines, mountain bike trails, skills parks and coastal areas, and of course it helps keep you fit.
We have the following facilities available for guests to use
- Secure & covered storage for up to four bikes in each of our four pods
- Cycle repair stand, tools and pump
- Outside tap, hosepipe, bucket, to wash bikes
- Drying areas with hanging facilities for clothes
- Washing & drying facilities in our laundry
- Information on local cycle hire shops
- A selection of maps and routes for the local area
After a day out adventuring on your bike, you can wash and clean your bike (please provide your own bike wash products), tuck it safely away into one of our specialist bike lockup pods, before cleaning yourself up in the bath, and relaxing in front of the fire and planning tomorrows route.
For those who enjoy a day out on the bike, but have been unable to bring their bikes on holiday, there are plenty of local options. Cycle hire is available at Big Bear Bikes in Pickering, as well as at Sutton Bank Bikes in the North York Moors National Park, Dalby Forest Cycle Hub in Dalby Forest, and at Dalby Bike Barn in Thornton le Dale. All of these will offer routes and maps for both beginners as well as more advanced riders.
There is a family friendly skills area at the Sutton Bank national park centre. The Yorkshire Cycle hub has a great café and many other biking resources. All of these will offer routes and maps for both beginners as well as more advanced riders.
The North York Moors National Park website has many routes to download.
