Additional Measures for your comfort and safety while at Low Costa Mill

 If you are unable to travel to Low Costa Mill due to changes in Government travel restrictions, including the “rule of 6” all money paid to Low Costa Mill in relation to the affected booking will be transferred to a new booking or refunded if required.

Our cottages, swimming pool and play are are now open (subject to change as per government guideance). Prior to your arrival we will contact you with our pre-arrival information, swimming pool guidance and rota and frequently asked questions.

  • We are complying with test and trace guidelines, with a note of the contact name and number for the lead booker.
  • We have a QR code for Low Costa Mill to be used with the NHS Covid-19 app
  • We require the lead guest to confirm prior to arrival that none of the guests are showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus (fever, dry persistent cough, loss of taste or smell) or are currently self-isolating.
  • We require the lead guest to confirm the planned occupancy for each of our cottages, and to confirm in writing that you understand you are not permitted to join together as a group with other cottage guests either inside or outside the cottages in groups exceeding 6 during your stay at Low Costa Mill.

Social Distancing During Your Arrival and Stay

While we will be here to give you a warm welcome, we will do so from a safe 2 metre distance.

To ensure we can clean and sanitize to the required standards set by Public Heath England, and for peace of mind of all guests, we are temporarily adjusting our check-in and check-out times. Please note that check-in is now from 5pm, we are unable to offer any early check-in facilities at this stage, please do not arrive prior to this time. Check-out is now 9am. We appreciate this is inconvenient but is in line with other large cottage rental companies, and allows peace of mind that the cottage is fully sanitized to the required standards.

Payment - if you are due to pay your final balance on arrival, to comply with social distancing rules, please settle the balance on your account by bank transfer or card a couple of days prior to arrival.

On arrival, the lead guest should come to come to our reception / office, the remainder of your family group should wait socially distanced at minimum 2 metres away from office, or remain in their car. Or call us on the phone to we will come out and meet you.

Please ensure you follow all current government guidelines and laws regarding social distancing and handwashing during your stay at Low Costa Mill.  We require guests to confirm in writing that you understand you are not permitted to join together as a group either inside or outside the cottages in groups exceeding 6 during your stay at Low Costa Mill.  Where it is clear you are breaking the law we will have to ask guests to immediately change behaviour and if this is not followed we will have no option but to insist guests leave site, no refunds for the remaining duration of your stay will be issued.

Cottage Cleanliness

  • We always strive to maintain extremely high standards of cleanliness at Low Costa Mill. During the Covid-19 outbreak we will be taking additional steps recommended by Public Health England.

  • All hard surfaces, handles, switches, remote controls, keys and laminated information sheets will be disinfected every changeover.

  • We are providing our usual hand-soap in the cottages, please ensure regular handwashing whilst on site as per government guidelines. If you require hand sanitizer please bring your own supply.

  • We are also taking extra steps to safeguard our staff and housekeepers, including employing extra staff members and providing protective equipment for all staff.

  • We have conducted a Covid-19 risk assessment using guidelines produced by the Government and professional trade associations to create a new set of cleaning protocols. We would not re-open if we were not confident that we could do so in a safe way for all involved.


Other Temporary Changes

Swimming pool (currently open, subject to change as per government guidance)

To maintain social distancing, we are limiting use of the pool to one cottage / family at a time.  A rota will be displayed on the pool door, each cottage will have a 1 hour time slot allocated each day with their sessions split across all times of the day (between 9am and 7pm).  For your safety,

  • please do not enter the pool building until your allocated time

  • come to the pool ready to swim with just towel, flip flops and costume already on

  • our changing room and toilet are unfortunately unavailable for use

  • all non-essential equipment has been removed from the pool hall

Our children’s play area, is open, however the tree house and toddler trundle toys are temporarily out of use. We still have a very large grass area for you to enjoy, please bring your own ball, frisbee, kites or anything else you enjoy, along with your buckets and spades for the sandpit. All children must be supervised at all times to ensure social distancing. Please ensure you wash or sanitize hands before and after using this facility.

Our laundry is currently closed, please bring sufficient clothing / items with you to last the duration of your stay, if your cottage does not have a washing machine. Remember we are always here and can open the laundry in the case of an emergency.

Please advise us if you wish to use a BBQ, so we can ensure it is sanitized prior to your use.

Unfortunately, day guests are not permitted on site at this time.

Items which are difficult to sanitize have been temporarily removed from our cottages, such as books, magazines and guest information. Books and Games along with local maps etc have also been removed from the pool lobby area. Local information can now be found on our website, or you are welcome to chat at a distance or message us for information.

If you require a cot, high chair or stair gate, please let us know in advance, so these can be set in the cottage prior to your arrival.

Where possible, we have reduced the soft furnishings in your cottage so that we are able to rotate them between guest arrivals.

Guests showing signs of Covid-19 whilst staying at Low Costa Mill are required to advise the owners, and immediately leave if this is reasonably possible as per government guidance. If for any reason that it is not, and self-isolation is required to take place at Low Costa Mill, then all fees for all bookings affected by this self-isolation will be borne by the guest. Even with some restrictions, you can have a great holiday both here at Low Costa Mill and in the Pickering area, but please prepare, plan and book ahead, as many attractions are offering pre-book or timed entries only.
